About SUNY REACH Neuroscience of Substance Abuse

The use and abuse of substances (e.g., alcohol, nicotine, licit and illicit drugs) is part of the fabric of life in the United States. Investigators throughout New York State are exploring mechanisms underlying and processes affected by substance abuse. Such studies not only help us appreciate how we can address this pervasive clinical issue, but also provide key insights into the neurobiology of normal motivation and drive. Our researchers use state-of-the-art molecular, cellular, and pharmacological approaches to understand the bases of behavior and how these are affected by substances.
